I currently own a 97 OBS CC LB and I love this truck. I've had it for 5-6 years. Manual transmission and manual 4x lever. I just like the levers more than the buttons for reliability. I've tuned it and done the D/P, 4" exhaust and the 6637 mod and I am beginning to collect the parts for the 99.5 3" intake/IC mods. Well, along comes someone selling their 00 350 that is just a newer version of my truck, but with a nicer interior. I like both body styles very much. My truck, I am sure, is worth somewhere around half what this newer truck is worth.
I guess I am looking for pro's and con's for going either direction. Continuing to mod my truck or to make a few payments and go for the newer truck, to get both sides, I have posted this to the SD forum, too.
Unless its got a lot less miles I wouldn't want to change and start payments on something again that isn't a lot different than what I have. JMO It's all what you want to do.

Thanks for the input!

For the most part the drive train is the same unless the sd 350 is an auto, difference is in suspension and brakes as wells as the frame and body. IMO, some maintnance on the OBS truck is cheaper but you have a trade off with the SD.
Your not changing really from apples to oranges lets say if you were buying a 6.0 PS; you only changing from a grape fruit to orange, its still a citruis fruit.
It come down to where do you want to be financial and what you want.
Is the Sd a 6speed? If its got an auto, keep that in mind. You wont be gaining much in power, not enough to make the switch worth it alone cuz you can do the exact same things to your obs. The ride will be better but again, wouldn't take much to do that to your truck. You will be making payments and in my opinion, thats a downfall. Depending on where you live, diesel's are starting to get controlled from 99+, i know california is starting to pay real good attention to that but your 97 they cant control. I guess to me, I would stick with the OBS, but like said above, its your call.
I drive a 96 f250 cc 7.3 4x4 auto and my wife has a 01 excursion 4x4 7.3. I like the seating position better in my truck. The excursion does feel more powerfull. The other negative is the wheel bearings on the excursion are non serviceable so when they go bad, the parts will be in the $4-500 range, not including labor if someone else does it.
My nephew has a 00 350 with 60K 4by4 dually for 13K. I was so tempted I could hardly sleep. His was stock so I'm keeping mine, didn't want to start all over again. Very, very tempting though.
The SD is a 6-speed. I love manual transmissions, and that's one of the things that draws me. Another gear. In the 97 (5-sp), I can go 75 or more, but the gearing tears my mileage up. So I keep it right about 70 on the interstate (24-2500rpm).
It's also got the Lariat package (captain's seats, etc) and I would like a nicer interior. Mine isn't bad at all, but the seats are a little tiresome after 8 hours in the saddle. Probably *any* seat will feel that way, though.
I won't do the 6.0 motor. I am a fan of the 7.3, so I'll stick with that. What's the HP/torque number comparison? I'd guess with my mods so far, I might have roughly 250/450...? Maybe a tad optimistic....
And the SD styling is nice on the early SDs. Post 05, they get a bit garish.
I'll presume all SDs are switch or push-button style 4x?
I almost want to give the OBS to the g/f's son as a graduation gift just to keep it in the family, but then I am stuck paying for a whole truck all over again.

I think you will find the 6th gear in that is just super low granny gear to get the heavy loads moving so you don't need to slip the clutch as bad. Your overdrive ratio is probably close to the same as what you have now. Gear vendors is probably the way to go if you want really high overdrive gearing.
In my opinion I think you should go ahead after the SD. If you do that, then I guess the next thing to do would be to sell me that 97!!!
Agreed. How many miles your truck got on it? I've been thinking bout getting a 5speed... You can have what you want and i can have what i want. haha.

keep in mind you may be uynig a truck with PMR rods in the motor. ford released x amount of trucks with PMRs(powdered metalic rods) to each year after 99 i belive. if you have any furture mods you may want to do inlvolving over 400HP forget about it lol the wrong tunes and combo of poweradders could easily blow a rod right out. our trucks have the heavier duty forged rods, good to about 550 easily.

You guys are great. Is this reverse psychology? You've brought up one of the other good points about my truck, it's "only" got 110k on her.
I consider that low miles. I still don't know what that SD has. The guy never replied to my email. Maybe this is another sign. Hmmm...
