When I unhook that vac line on the distributor it runs good etc..when it is hooked up it wont idle in D and makes a clicking sound coming right where it plugs in
so when you unhook it and plug the line it runs good or does it run good open & sucking air?
You can test the vac advance by blowing or sucking in a vac line plugged into the vac advance. if the diaphram is torn you'll be able to blow or draw air through it. if you can't get any air to pass through it then it's fine.
I've honestly never seen a vac advance like that one before. But it seems to me that pulling vac on the back side of the diaphram would turn it into a vac retard instead of a vac advance.
seriously tho, i don't understand the twin port vac advance.
If you can blow through it you better just plug the line for now.
I guess I would think it should be timed at around 10 degrees before TDC at idle with no vac (and prior to any mechanical advance coming in)The vacuum would maybe bring it up to 16.
you mentioned something about see if it starts good hot.
Sorry for hackin on you about the P-valve swap. I guess I forgot how fast I used to do things.
Christ, we would change engines in no time back in the day. I remember me & a friend changing out 302's in a T-bird with no engine hoist of any kind. we just got inside there & lifted it out & over the radiator. put the swap back in the same way & it didn't take too long.
