Found this thread while searching for something else. From the early days of the 6.0, Feb 2003.

I didn't recongnize many of the names. The rough start of the engine sure had the fur flying.

Going back to ancient history... looks to me there were a stack of issues with build quality:
- torquing it right
- sand in casting
- EGR
As the first engine with EGR in a big way, Navistar was over their head in understanding the issue.
Take out these issues, and take out the ones caused by poor maintenance, tuning - excess output...
And what do we have?

I remember reading the early 6.0 psd posts in the early days and it was pretty sad what these people went thru.
I suspect you don't see these people anymore because of the bad taste this product left them with.
The one thing that chaps me is the oil leaks were one the early problems being reported and that problem was never fixed IMO.
