By 06 they had the quirks figured out. There are some known weak links with the 6.0, there is also a certain list in which mods must be done if you go that route. The 06 should be a solid platform, just follow the advice and suggested mods for the 6.0. And of course, spend the money on an oasis report. If it's been a lemon and they're dumping it now that the warranty is up, just say no.
Thanks Chris, the guy ran an Auto Check report, will an Oasis report show anything different?,The Auto check(I think thats what it was) comes back with no known issues, the truck is in perfect shape, but I know that don't mean alot with a 6.0.It is a one owner,a local guy,I don't know if I could track him down for any type of service records or not.
Oasis will show any and all work performed by any Ford dealer. It's important on a 6.0 so you understand if this thing was in the shop 100 times for warranty work. It's only available from Ford, but it will show everything a Ford dealer has done to the vehicle, from replacing a bulb to replacing the motor.
I just responded in the 6.0 forum but also wanted to add the if the oasis checks out you will probably have a great running 6.0 on your hands even tho most the 7.3 guys here still have it stuck in there heads that the 6.0 was the worst engine international ever made when relay it was on of the better ones.
Thanks Nick,I hope the Oasis turns out good,we drove it today and loved it,it runs out very smooth, our TT is too big for the Tahoe so we've been looking to see whats out there. We've been looking for an X with a 7.3,but nice ones are scarce.I'm keeping my 99 7.3 though..
EDIT: I forgot to mention that it some type of intake and a 4" exhaust,I don't know if it had any type of chip or programmer before though.
Phil, I have an '07 service truck with the 6.0, mileage is relatively low but my research before buying indicated the later run 6.0s are as trouble free as any of the diesels, with very few tranny issues. There are some mods to enhance both dependability as well as performance, as you well know(lol).
