hi im tryin to figure out wich transmission model i have, i have a 99 super duty f250 5.4l v8 i dont know what kind of tranny ihave though, any way i can find out? thanks
its an automatic, i have another question im going to start the process of putting a cummins in it, will the transmission be fine behind the cummins, also i talked to the CA refferee and they say that i need a motor from the same year or newer, how are they gna tell if the motor is the same year or newer? im looking at a 5.9l I6 cummins i could get an older one for cheap but im afraid of having to buy one newer for more money. also if i put a twin turbo on it will i need additional wiring? it seems that they dont run on alot of wiring to begin with. im a newbie when it comes to diesel.
hmmm... you want to put a cummins diesel in a gas superduty...
I think mating the tranny to the motor is the least of your worries...
I am affraid this is way out of my league. Others will chime in soon, cummins swap has been discussed on here before, you might try searching the forum.

It is a suicide mission.
There are people doing engine swaps --- go read their stuff and see how complex a job it is.
You are basically close to starting from scratch.
Many of the successful conversions are done on pre-emission chassis that have few rules.
Your vehicle is a 99, so it has to meet the 99 or later emissions.
Immediate issue: would they recognize an engine swap to diesel for purpose of emission testing?
Or would they test you as a gasser, in which case, a 99 diesel will probably be ... interesting...
Next issue, you cannot legally use an older engine.
Next issue --- where are you going to get the complete electronics package?
How are you going to mate the Ford electronics (dash board to TCM to BCM) to the Cummins?
Now.. if those are not killers....
The Cummins have so much torque that overload of the transmission, driveshaft, differential, and frame is possible.
You basically are going to have a easier time writing a check and starting from a brand new diesel.
i've heard that once you get it checked out by a reff then dmv will either change the fuel type on my registration from gas to diesel so i wouldnt have to smog it again, the reff said that its ok with the diesel swap in CA and that all i need is the same year or newer engine it just needs the smog parts on it. as for the wiring and transmission destroke and some of the cummins websites have great help on that. i would build the transmission before putting a new cummins in front of it. i bought my super duty for 2k bux, the way i see it i'm gna buiild me a bad rig next to new for a third or fourth of the price of buying a new powerstroke or cummins. i was looking around and found a next to brand new 5.9 cummins for 2k so that answered two of my questions. thanks for the info guys
