I was wondering if anyone knows where I could find a new shifter boot for my transfer case? I bought one at the junk yard for a few bucks that was in good shape but as soon as I put it on and moved the lever it split all over. I've got an 82 f150 with an NP208 and an Np435.
Just make sure to check JBGs shipping price before you order. Most often its very expensive.
otherwise I wouldnt hold my breath on finding a good replacement boot in a junk yard. 28yrs sitting in the sun will rot even the most well taken care of rubber pieces.
I came across something today when I searched again. However, Im not sure if it is the right once since there is no picture but I did get my np435 out of an F250 so I might try and call this company to find out more information. Only $10 bucks!
Click this link and in the search bar, type "transfer case boot" and the first item that comes up is the one, let me know what you guys think.
F150 or 250 or even F600/700 couldve used a Np435. What it came out of doesnt really matter.
Thats a heck of a deal for $10 if its an actual Ford part and not a cheapo Chinese copy that uses a Ford part number like a good bit of the stuff on Ebay.
Have a local leather shop make you one using the old plastic one as a template. Just have them put a bit more give into it. It comes out real neat if they use four different kinds of colored leather.

That's an interesting idea! My friends neighbor owns an upholstery shop, I could ask him about that too.
Yes, it works out well. What you can do is they have plastic o-rings, you just have one that barely fits over the shifter shaft, then the leather is stitched over that like a bead. If it falls down at all, a simple tack weld or key on the shifter shaft that barely sticks out will prevent the boot from slipping down.
