too funny, just depends on what he is trying to accomplish and how beat up the old one is. If it is one good shape than I would clean it up. Original is definitely better than reproduction. I had to buy a reproduction grill from DC for my 1972 F100. The old one was beat to all heck. Definitely set me back some $$$ but DC makes stuff with original Ford tooling and I am trying to get everything back to show quality.
so then go around to different shops, show them your grill and ask them how much it will cost to polish it
I've done that here in So.Cal. I was curious as to what other states are quoting you guys. I talked to a fellow over the phone who I have helped get parts for his 67, He was told by two different shops, it was expensive.
First shop was in Florida, $1,600.00 plus shipping both ways, A waiver needed to be signed releasing them of liability, in case they warped it or burned through it. The second shop was in Texas somewhere and they wanted $800.00 Plus a similar waiver.
Well all this has got my attention. So now I'm looking for a shop, close by (100 mile radius) that I can deal with. I'm going to have a few grilles polished for some buddies of mine.
yikes. thats alot of money for someone to have you sign a form saying oh well too bad if we destroy your property. i wonder where they come up with that kind of quote only for a grill, especially in florida which has a very low cost of living. the crossbeams would be total cake and only take an hour or two, its the headlight areas that would be the kick in the *****. when i finally get myself a grill that is worthy of polishing and not beat to hell i will polish it and post the pictures.
