While looking at the thread posted by crewdog, I can't help wonder how much is polishing for grills this size? 67-68-69
If any of you have had a grill polished what did you pay? I hope that's not a personal question. Just trying to get information on getting a grill polished.
Also what was the most expensive quote anyone has had. And what was the least, (are they still in business? hahaha)
I've gotten a quote for a 69 that came in at $800.00 I'll continue to shop around.
This reminded me of some stuff I had and have been meaning to try.
WARNING: This is very strong and needs outside ventilation. Do not use this stuff in your garage. I never wear goggles or gloves, but they are highly recommended with this stuff. Do not have this around pets or animals and do not use it in your grass.
Go to the hardware store in the plumbing section and look for a gallon of stuff called "Liquid Fire", you can not miss it. This stuff is in a red gallon plastic container sealed in a clear bag. Twenty bucks total. My hardware store is a True Value.
I put about 3 ounces of fire in a plastic drinking bottle. I could not put a lot of water in because it immediately got hot and started to melt the bottle. I took a small piece of trim work and dipped it into the bottle for two minutes no longer. I pulled it out and wiped it with a rag... the rag melted. (I kid you not) I decided to rinse the trim with the garden hose. The trim was white where it had been soaking. It needs some polishing and will look brand new. I think a half gallon will do all your trim work and grille.
I am going to buy 2 more gallons now since I just saw that this stuff is used in making crystal meth.
there was a big write up in the 73-79 about stripping a grille-Build a wood or pvc pipe frame and line it with plastic then get crystal drain opener and mix with water and soak your grill. Some one also said oven clearer will take off the anodizing
All this information is great for the do-it-yourselfers.
But I was hoping to get actual information regarding cost quoted to you guy's/gal's from a polishing shop.
I can strip the grill, I can spend hours polishing, but what is a shop quoting prices for this process?

Sorry bub, I guess the way it was asked I misunderstood.
I spent $600 CDN to get my 67 grill and headlight doors stripped, straightened, un-dented, and polished. They did it time and materials...
They look great!
Now the rest of my brightwork looks like bumbum.
If you don't do it yourself you may be better off purchasing a new one. May end up being less expensive than having a professional clean, strip, buff, polish your old one....
