I've had this truck for a while - it has 64,000 miles - and have never changed the transmission filter hung behind the RF wheel. Maybe the dealer did it once when it was in the shop before the warranty expired at 36K, but doubt it. First of all, it was a b!@#$ to get off. I needed my long breaker bar, a long extension and of course the 22mm socket. I'm surprised that this filter even passed ATF!! Quite a bit of sludge, though the fluid looks as clean as new. Probably should do a fluid change soon.
Also - changed the fuel filter - which I do yearly. It sure would have been nice if Ford left a bit more slack plus didn't use that filter clamp for a multi purpose line retainer
And of course, it got an oil, filter and air filter change for the summer driving and the anticipated $4/gallon gas
My 2008 maintanance schedule has transmission flush and filter change set at 30,000 miles, which seems to be an overkill but I will comply with that. The filter on the first 2008s are also an oddball canister type needing special tools to replace.
