Hey guys. Just picked myself up a 2008 F350 V-10 4x4 and am looking for a few upgrades. First a CAI, exhaust and a tuner. This was all easily accomplished with my 04 F150 (miss her dearly) but I'm finding not such an easy task with this beast (starting to love her dearly). I found such a smoking deal on this truck that I seem to have some money to spare.
I tow a 30' TT and anything I can do to ease the fuel burden even by a MPG or two would be great. Any suggestions would be uber-helpful.
Thanx guys, you've always been more than helpful!
oh BTW, its a ext cab, not a crew if that makes any diff with the exhaust.

A CAI and exhaust will gain you absolutely NOTHING. The exhaust on the '05-up trucks is very good, and the induction system is very good as well. The best thing you can do is get a good flash tuner from a reputable company that will tune your truck to your usage.

hhhmmm, ok. I'll trust you on that. Was hoping to get a richer exhaust tone but if its not going to perform any better than I'll live with it. I keep reading about 5 star, anyone have any thoughts on thier tuners?

Awesome, thanx for the heads up Johnny, I'll give him a shout. Maybe I'll try just throwing a new muffler and tip on and see if I can get that exhaust note I'm looking for. The truck just seems too damn quiet for such a monster..... lol
From personal experience with my Banks, I wouldn't do it again. If I was doing it all over again, I would have the resonator behind the muffler removed and add a nice stainless 4" tip to mellow out the sound.
A 4"-4 1/2" OD stainless tip (12"-18" long) would look nice, just cut some of the stock tailpipe off when intalling it. Can add another muffler for more sound but I wouldn't do much hacking on the exhaust. Definatly go for the SCT tuner.
I assume the stock tailpipe is 3" outlet? Does anyone know off hand? Its a little tough to measure because of the slanted tip.
And thanx for the advice folks, looks like you just saved me a bunch of $$$, thats always a good thing, now I have more money for fuel.

Hi stratus225 we can help out for sure with solid tunes for your V10, I think you will be suprised what Ford as left on the table with these 3v motors...
Call me any time to talk specs or if you have questions.
thanks

Ok so forgive my ignorance, but I've never messed with any of the custom tuning, etc., on any truck I've had. What could I expect to spend, and gain on my '10 V10 as far as mpg?? I'm happy with the way it runs, and honestly it only gets about 2 mpg less than my '07 6.0 did, but if I could spend a few hundred bucks and pick up a mpg or two I'd be more than interested.
From everything the guys have told me on here and the research I've done so far the only things that will help you get a boost in fuel economy are a 9% downhill grade and a tailwind.... I havent heard of anyone really breaking the 14-15 mpg range and I find even that to be high. I will be ordering an SCT tuner soon and maybe I might be able to gain 1-2 mpg from the 10 that I am currently getting, but I'm not expecting miracles.
Hi,
I also own a 2008 V-10, I installed a flowmaster,Cat back system with the 70 series muffler,my truck has a nice tone to it when idleing and accelerating,go on the flowmaster sight to look at there cat back systems,no better milage but sounds great, because it's from the Converter back no emission problems.
