Question daytime running lights ..

I know this topic has been covered before but here I go .. I have a 90 F150 and today .. the daytime running lights refuse to go away ... so I pulled the neg clamp and am looking to resolve the trucks problem ... hopefully without visiting a dealership .. Im sure it cant be too hard to resolve. Any clear advice would be gladly accepted ..

In the '92-96 body style, it was under the L headlight between the core support & the grille. Look for the EVTM on the Chilton's site and it should have a component map for your truck.

i'm having exactly the same problem with a 1990 F150 as keneboy did.

the truck has 5.0L engine with manual transmission.

does anyone have a suggestion as to where i might find the DRL in my truck?

Same place as Steve said on the newer truck. If you remove the grille insert you can see it on the left side or you can look up in behind the front bumper on the left side. The screws that hold it on are kinda hard to get at though.

Thanks,

Steve was exactly right about the location.

I successfully removed the module. My headlights now work properly, although I have no high beam indicator I can live with than.

The DRL module in the 1990 F150 is easy to remove if you know where it is. Simply remove the grill. Look under the left headlight. Take out two screws.

If anyone would find a photo of the DRL module useful, i would be happy to post one.

Now that you've done all that................a stupid observation.

I don't have a '90 to look at, but my new '03 had the DRL on a separate fuse. I just yanked it out and everything else works fine.

Not trying to stepon your toes, Steve.

When did Ford start installing daytime running lights? I was unaware that trucks as old as 1990 had them. Were they standard or optional? I have a 1993 & no DRL (maybe disconnected by PO). I was just curious about this.

Starting in 1990 all vehicles in Canada had to have DRLs. Some had them before that. I'm not sure about in the US.
Most of the new vehicles dont have a DRL module so all it takes to get rid of them is to remove the fuse. Not sure why you'd want to though. DRLs do make your vehicle easier to see which makes it safer.
