as far as what condition to leave it, depends on the issue. its hard do duplicate pumping coolant when your truck only does it tuned. its hard to diag an injector when you are always overfueling. we can always return it to stock programing our selfs
Glad to know... Figured the tech wouldn't want to mess with the tuner and return it to stock.

Very quickly, it was concluded that there are several millions of line of critical software code, every single line a potential point of failure.

Gave them some hints as to what "aerospace grade" code is...

Then went to hardware failures... etc...

Basically, even without mods, it is nearly impossible to debug real problems..

With mods... good luck...

I run into this on a regular basis with the Dmax. People will swear up and down that it doesnt/never had a programmer/chip on it. I can pull the history of the last SEVERAL calibrations that were in that ECM and tell within 2 minutes if it has been programmed. Then you look under the hood and its got a thermocouple in the manifold hooked to nothing....Clips on the main engine harness are missing or broken where an EDGE was hooked inline. Burns my butt. They cant understand why 5th gear is burned out of there allison. If I do get them to fess up and admit to it, they get pissed when I tell them that 5th gear is burned up because of the edge.

ON the same note, if the guy is upfront and honest with me and I kinda "feel" him out and seems ok, I will do what it takes to help him out. If he is arogant and acts like I owe him something, sorry about your luck.

After a few min of talking with him I asked DO YOU HAVE A PROGRAMER, he said no. I do some quick checking of the codes he has stored in the pcm one of them is for the egr throttle plate.... his truck is an 06 wich did not ever have one. his flash that was in the truck was vxc4h2, wich didnt have one. I checked his milage sence the codes were last cleared 55 miles ago. Now this guys want me to be smart enugh to fix his truck and understand how it works, but dumb enugh not to know how that code was set. So my question is do I toss the guy under the bus for lieing, toss him under the bus for using a programer, or just fix his truck?

also his little printed pice of paper had his 2" lift, wheels, tires, added 2nd alternator and you guest .....it a programer listed

im taking votes here.
Under the Bus, I put a programmer on my 01 at 100,000 miles, pulled off the side of the road to do it. My 05 is stone cold stock and never had an Issue. My 06 has had a few problems at around 50K and 78K stock after that I did put a programmer on it. It did run a little stronger but towing under the tow setting was a joke, it did much better stock and the "Economy" setting cut my fuel mileage by 1 mpg so I don't run it very often. A complete waste of money IMHO! I've buggered up the 2nd gear Sync on my GT500, there is a TSB repair out for something like this but I buggered it up Drag racing. I will not ask Ford to fix it at their cost for something I did. That stealing from Ford and everyone else!!

I don't ask Ford or anyone else

I would have done the same thing, I hate getting a ticket that says blows white smoke, I drive the truck and it doesn't do it, then check the comp and it has a p1000 in it and they swear they don't have a tuner. funny but when I give it back to them the DLC doesn't have as many wires as when it came in with

I think you did the right thing in the end.

On an aside, when I was young an niave I used to think the majority of people were honest. From my experience 1/4 of people will lie or cheat (but that doesnt mean regularly) to save their *** or get ahead if they can.

Maybe he had or knows someone well who had a bad dealership experience, maybe he felt the tuner was irrelevant to what he wanted done. It took 3 trips to dealers to fix a problem with my truck because the dealer wasnt listening to what I was telling them. I learned the hard way a different time (non warranty issue) that when I know what the problem is that I will not let them diagnose the problem, next time it will be no thanks, just change the parts.

That's exactly why you lie to your tech.
Nobody wants that on their oasis.

Your doing a big no-no by putting an aftermarket part on your vehicle that changes parameters. There is no company that in their right mind is going to warranty a product that has it's parameters changed beyond the scope of the original design(more then likely changed in that direction).

If the owner didn't believe that the aftermarket part was responsible for the problem, then there was no reason to lie to the tech and withhold information that could be helpful in determing what's going on with the truck. You also have to think about the fact that no one likes being lied to and being caught in a lie "you" run a big risk of getting "hurt" more in the long run then just being up front.

Lying is something that I just can't stand at all when it's something along these lines. Want to take a chance and lie to a tech, that's "your" choice, "you" get caught doing it, "you" get what "you" get.

I don't care if "you" or someone "you" know feels slighted by Ford. There are other ways of doing "business" then trying to commit fraud. Maybe not fraud in this instance, but I can promise you that there have been and will be people that lie to techs to get things covered under warranty and they know(or should have known) that their aftermarket product caused the issue(or more then likely caused it).

I'm not saying that the customer has to bend over and take it, don't think I'm saying that, but there are other ways to get your point accross then committing(or attempting) to commit fraud.

see here the thing if he had told the truth it would not be there. He wasted my time, my time is money, thats food on my table, a roof over my head that he took away by not being honest. I call it a fair trade.
