exhaust woes...

well i decided to make my truck have duals. i have 2.5" pipe running into a flow delta flow 40 series now.

my question is if i use a 2.5 y-pipe or should i use 3" (3" comes off the 1st cat from factory) and use 2.5" pipe to go into another flow delta flow 40 series.

or could i run duals from the manifolds with 2.5" pipe...

questions are:will i loose any low end with either choice? and will it actually make me loose power?

i dont really wanna go out and buy 2 new flows instead of one...

If you use dual 2" pipes, you won't loose power. Duals on these engines walk a real fine line, I have the 2" pipes, this thing used to have dual 2 1/2", and it had no low end. A single 3" from the first cat back works well, this is what I am doing with the v-8. I am using the 300-6EFI front cat that came with my downpipes, hollowing it out, running the pipes from the manifolds into it, and 3" out. Looks legal. I would keep the stock cat in place, and intact, though. The engine needs some back pressure to run right.

Ordinarily I would say that dual 2.5" pipes is too much, but the further away from the exhaust valve you get the less important pipe size becomes. By the time you get all the way back past the second cat you could probably run 2.5" duals and be OK. If you run duals from the manifolds with 2.5" pipe you are going to have problems. First of all, you will lose a very noticable amount of low end torque. Secondly, you aren't going to gain anything on the top end because the manifolds will still be the bigger restriction of the two. I wouldn't go bigger than 2.25 on duals from the manifolds back, and 2.0 would probably be better. I have 2.25 on mine because that's what size the header collectors were and I had 2.25 pipe laying around. If I could have picked any size it would have been 2.125, but that isn't very practical. If you already have a muffler you can run the smaller pipe up to the muffler, then flare it out to the larger size at the muffler inlet. This used to be a common setup back when mufflers were a large restriction.

A single 2.5" inlet with dual 2.5" outlets would be fine. A single 2.5" pipe is good up to about 230-240 hp.

Yes, that's what I meant, to run the front cat, and dual 2.5"'s after that. Or single to the muffler, duals out, etc. Just not dual 2.5's off of the downpipe.

Fake Duals are better than no Duals...If you gotta have them.....
You are probably better off with your existing system
Putting money into duals on these 300's is not very beneficial...The money can buy you better improvements....
The 2.5 inch system will MORE than do (Much more) a 300 with a CAM and ported and polished head.....
but if you gotta have them DUAL EXHAUST...The "Y" pipe is the most practical
