I'm running 4" exhaust. I don't have a pyro yet. I have exhaust gas in my degas bottle, so somthing other than the T-stat is wrong. What do you thnk about the injector sleeve?
How do you test that your coolant has been exposed to exhaust gas?
This is what I used.Amazon.com: Combustion Leak Detector: Automotive You put the flued in the tube, put in the fill hole, and hook the hose to vacume. If the flued turns yellow you have a leak.
But Cheezit said it's not the best way to test it.
ok so far we have now found 4 of your issues.
1) over boost
2) slipping belt (indacated by a polished water pump pully)
3) you tuner
4) improper diag.
1) see number 3
2) replace any pully that does not have groves that is shiny and not black, replace the belt and tensioner.
3) find a new tune as a dd.
4) diag only with a pvt ( pressure transducer) make sure the cooling system pressure does not exceed 18 psi. this can be casued by #3
here the thing on the "exhaust gas test tool" you have opted to use, any high compression boosted engine is subject to a small amout of co/hc in the degas tank by nature I speculate that this is why Ford is not having us test in this manner.
please note my previous question about ppm of exhaust gases in the degas tank.
Ok, one more thing. It also puked in the tow tune while towing about 16,000. Max boost was 28.
Thanks for your help!
refer to #2 and #4.
if your tow tune was written for pulling 8k then you have an issue. basicly what Im getting out is the tow tune may still be to agressive for what you are doing. best advise I can give is tow stock.
if you are already puking then odds are stacked aginst you, or you may be just adding to much coolant.
Ok boys' sorry it took so long.
I put on a new pully, belt and water pump.
Checked the presure at the degas bottle, it held to 16 psi.
Called up eric and he said the early 04 turbos can make up to 35 psi.
Now the bad news........Monday I was towing up a hill, at the bottom the temp was 218 then it started going up,Fast, it got to 246 then I saw white exaust. Now when I start it in the morning it blows a white cloud. I ordered my head gaskets yesterday.
And I think I know why they blew again. When we did the gaskets last time we took the heads in and had them checked. They five thousands from flat, The guy that checked them for us said that was fine.
Yesterday I talked to two guys who said five thousands was too much. Wish I would have known that before.
One of those guys also said he doesn't like black onix gaskets, He said he's put in ton's of OEM gasket with no problems. He put in two black onix gaskets and they both blew.(anybody else heard of that?)
So it looks like my problem was a bad head gasket all along, Caused by warped heads.
Got her put back together with stock gaskets. We took the heads in and had them checked, the where less than two thousands out. Here are some pic's of the old ones.
Word of advise, don't use black onix gaskets.
It has not been a pattern here of issues with the black onyx gaskets. Many have used them with few complaints.
The only way the black onyx gaskets are going to cause you problems is if you don't clean the heads and deck properly... If you leave built up material around the coolant passages you will have problems.
