Unhappy Bad Injector

I own a 2003 Excursion equipped with the 6.0L PS engine. The #5 injector failed at 55,000 miles but was replaced under warrenty. It just failed again (@ 85,000 miles) and the Ford dealer wants $1,300 to replace. I have been online reading up on the PS 6.0L and cannot seem to locate a CD/DVD shop amnual for the 03 Excursion. Does anybody know where I may find one?
Also, as I face the engine bay, where is the #5 cylinder?

Thanks in advance,

Bobcat Bob

Cylinder layout: Facing the engine from the drivers seat (looking through the windshield):
Right: 1 3 5 7 (Passenger Side)
Left: 2 4 6 8 (Drivers Side)
7 & 8 at the rear of the engine well (fire wall).

There are always folks on ebay selling the manuals on DVD.

Thanks for the quick reply.............if you don't mind I would like to pick your brain a bit more........I can buy a remanufactured injector from an outfit in Oakland, CA for ~ $250. Is this a good price or can you recommend another source for injectors that would match the ones in my 03 Excursion?

Sounds pretty good to me, haven't bought any in a long while though. Is that with or without the core? If it's without you can sell the core for quite a bit.

Edit:

Maybe not... There's brand new injectors on ebay for about 200

Haha a core is pretty automotive generic. Core would be the one you allready have. On stuff that can be rebuilt you usually trade your core for the rebuilt, and they give you money for it.

Before you go to the trouble to remove the #5 FI, I would look at the electrical connector. Strange that the same injector would fail in 30,000 miles. Make sure the connector is seated and that no pins are corroded or pushed back. Had a FI issue on my DIL gasser. Had a miss. Replaced the plug and wire before we found the FI connector was not seated.

Do you mean the connector to the injector? inside the valve cover? I'm replacing #2 & #4 in two days and would like to check all the other connections while I am in there <---sorry

Wait, what?

There are no electrical connectors to the injectors. They're oil driven. They're also inside the engine, not on top like a normal car or engine. The oil pressure controls the injectors. I'm not super fluent, but i've done a bit on this and this is what i've found.

The injectors have an electrical connection...current (48v) is used to energize the coils that move the spool valve

The connector I'm referring to is at the FI connector outside the valve cover. This is the 4 pin connector that sets in the head and the FICM wire harness attaches to each FI. There is a spring clip that keeps the FICM wire harness connector in place. If this connector is not totally seated there is the possibility there may be intermittent electrical connection or possible moisture contamination. I would also check to be sure there are no bent male pins in the head FI connector and no recessed female pins in the FICM wire harness connector. When I plugged mine FI connectors back in after I did the oil cooler rebuild, I smeared a little diaelectric grease on the exterior of the FICM harness female connector to be sure it would seat properly. But that is just me.

Have you purchased from them?
I'm taking an '04 "Crummy" on trade for my '97 and it NEEEDS injectors BAAAAD! Ithink I could put a Geo 3 cyl. in it and it would run better.
They've put injectors in it two other times and fixed it. I'm thinking it has a bad "fuel pump" too????????

If the oil rail was over tightened after installing the new injector. It could cause a small leak and start to cause the injector to go bad.
