If you are like me and spend some late hours in the shop. Here something that may help...buy some sliding screens. The kind that fits under the window in your house. Slide these apart and rest the overhead door on them. The bugs will hang around the bottom of the door looking at the light..not knowing that they can fly over the door to get in.
One trick I recently discovered from my nieghbor that really works but only for flies...
Take a clear plastic bag (ziplock etc) fill full of water and hang near a light source or where the sun will refract off it ...Has something to do will faceted eyes of the fly confuses them so they don come near...and it works....
I use my super blower fan detailed in a thread here to keep all the bugs away in the summer. It gets a mite chilly in the cool weather tho. Frostbite at 60F...

For the best results from a bug zapper. Hang the bug zapper a distance away from your garage or work area so it draws bugs away from you instead of towards you.
My father in law built a homemade bug zapper. Unlike the store bought units (that have a measure of safety in mind) his ran straight 120 volt current through the mesh.
Bugs didn't just zap they'd explode, sometimes violently and it looked like an arc welder coming on!
Another trick is to turn out the garage light for about 10 minutes while burning some bright ones in the driveway/entry. They all go to the light and then slam the door!
