Got into my Ex this morning to go to work and turned on the wipers to clear the windshield and there is a loud wining noise coming from the left side while they are running. Sounds like it could be the motor. They are working, but the noise doesn't sound good. Is this the motor itself or something else?
I have had the same problem crop up recently. It started about 2 weeks ago with just a slight gear noise and then a few days ago something seemed to snap. Wipers continue to work but now with a much louder growl. Should be easy to pinpoint once I get in there. I suspect a transmission bearing or possibly the motor itself. Will report whatever I find...

Mine started just this morning and is quite loud. Definitely coming from the drivers side where the motor is. Wipers do work just as you report. I would think that is in the motor gear case. When you buy a new motor it comes complete with the gears assembly ready to go. You just have to remove the transmission assembly to get at the motor. Let me know how you find.
Fixed it last night as rain was forecast for today and I needed to make sure the wipers wouldn't quit. It was the motor. Pretty easy to replace. Just remove the blades, cowling, and then finally the motor/linkage assembly. You can then remove the motor from the linkage (I reconnected the motor by itself ran it - that was the source of the noise). $55 at O'Reilly's for a new one, lifetime warranty.
