no kickdown rod
no kickdown rod
i believe i have a C6 (not positive)
with a 360 motor, and when we first got this truck it shifted fine and has alot of giddy up n go! lol
but seems to have lost it all hah
ive put in a 2brl instead of a 4brl carb and theres no sight of a kickdown rod.
now since ive had the truck i never recall seeing one.
yes i know what they look like n all ive changed my dads carb on his and he had a kickdown.. wheres mine at ? ??
and now its been shifting funny.. any ideas would be appreciated..

On these transmissions the kickdown rod controls the kickdown into a lower gear only. The modulator is what controls shift points and the "quality" of the shift.
I would check the vacuum line(s) that go to the modulator and the modulator itself. A quick check is to pull the vacuum line off the modulator and see if transmission fluid drips out. If it does the modulator needs to be replaced.

The above description is correct.. the kickdown is sometimes referred to as a "passing" gear, all though all it does is kick down to the next gear, i.e 3rd to 2nd or 2nd to 1st.
It does not in any way control normal driving shift quality. The governor, servo and modulator control shift points. I have over 100,000 miles on my C6 WITHOUT the kickdown. I have always had plenty of power to just floor it to pass some granny leaguer. If I really needed to I can manually shift to 2nd. Besides that more fun anyways!
Just don't pass D and hit neutral or reverse!

Don't worry about the kick down rod , I drove my 79 bronco with a 460 for 10 years with no problems and my 64 falcon,289 ,for 20 years,no problems. I never had the correct rod for the falcon and just forgot to install it on the bronco. Hard to do after the engine is in , so I just drove it.
