Im stumped. I was putting my leds in and had the switch to the run position. When i was finished i went back to turn the key off and i have no gas. When I started i had 1/4, when i was done it registered "E". I called the dealer and he said it could be the sending unit or the gauge. I'm wondering where my gas couldve went. Has this every happened to anyone else?
yeah i agree with tylus....my truck did that last summer and I had just gotten gas earlier that day....went from full to reading less than 1/8th of a tank....I ended up taking the gas cap off, replacing the cap and the starting the truck. By a few key on/ key off cycles, the gauge was back to normal later that day. I would not worry about it unless the problem persists.
I had a similar problem .... Few months ago, the fuel gauge did not go to full even when the tank was full. Re-started the truck few times then finally it went to F. Next problem was I drove it for 300 km and it stayed at F. The only way to get a new reading from the guage was to re-start the truck. It was like an old man .... hard to get it up and hard to to get down.
After 10-20 re-starts, the guage seems working fine now. I don't have an explanation why it did that.
I took the cap off and put it back on, I've cycled it 5-8 times. Yall r talking about turning the key to the run position right? And its reading 1/8 now, which i did drive to work but it doesnt take me an 1/8 of tank to get there.
I think there is a TSB on this problem. If I remember right it has to do with the amount of sulfer in the gas. Vehicles used a float and sender to talk to the gas guage for years and years, worked well. But they had to change it.
Thanks for looking that up Ryan50hrl. It would have taken me a long time to find it. Yes, my bumper to bumper is up in two months also. But everything works good right now, knock on wood. I'm taking a gamble on turning down an extended warranty.
+1 .... Thanks for looking that up Ryan50hrl. My ituation is exactly like Oldguy4. The fuel guage is working fine at this moment and I don't think the dealer will believe what I said and replace the sender. Also, don't fix if it is not broken. I just keep my fingers cross and hope for the best.
