OK so after reading all the threads I could, clutch was not kicking in. Spun freely by hand, not frozen up. So I jumpered the cycling pressure switch. The clutch engaged.
So are these switches known for common fail, or should i be looking more into a low freon problem. The truck is a 1993 f250. R134 converted, or so it reads on the blower under the hood.
One thing is, when I pulled the plug on the pressure switch, on one of the plug in terminals it had a buildup of a greenish/blue liquidy gunk. Would that mean i have a leak at the switch itself? Maybe lost freon from a slow leak there? Or maybe the switch could be bad and I still have some freon in it? The truck did sit several months before i traded for it. thanks for any reply. Any chance a novice can put the freon in with any success. If so, could you briefly detail me on the hookup. thanks
You can get a DIY kit from any parts store or wally world... Several of them have a gauge that comes with it. t will only hook up on 1 terminal on the a/c system. I converted my 87 over last summer and it still has the 87 model pressure switch installed. I think you should check the freon level before you try anythig else... Do you have any buddies in the auto repair business? they could give you a better idea at the gas level if they have a full gauge set.
