Hey guys. I need some input on my trucks fuel pressure. My truck started losing power so I changed all the fuel filters. When I was putting it all back together I hooked up a fuel pressure gauge to the top test port on the fuel bowl. My truck runs pretty good again but these are the pressures I got
So now I am wondering I my fuel pump is going bad. Because I was always under the impression that the fuel pressure should hold steady under all conditions.
That seems good i know when i installed my regulated return it said to keep the pressure around 50 psi.You might want to bring it down a little.I don't know if it's better to have it at 60 lbs. Some will chime in who knows more then me.
Jeron, they seem about normal. IIRC ford says anything above 50 is OK. I just drove up from GJ Colorado to SLC towing my house. I watched FP the whole way 52-54 at WOT, 58-60 idle. I think a RR and adjustable regulator will be on my list of future mods.
on a side note I'll be here all summer, maybe we can plan a G2G when it warms up.
Your fuel pressure is fine. Ford considers normal operating pressure to be 51 psi +-4 psi, so if you aren't getting under 50 psi at WOT then I wouldn't worry about it at all.
Those are the same numbers mine was getting before i shimmed it.. Shimmed it every were between 45 to 70.. Never made one bit of difference how it ran. Been at 65psi since last summer.
ok thanks guys that makes me feel alot better..... and Barney that would be great, i have only met one other FTE guy. i don't think to many people from utah are active on here. send me a pm with some info on when you will be here and how to get a hold of you and we will meet up sometime.
That is a good question but may not be relevant with a new fuel filter.
Just FYI, the port on the driver's side (top left) is unfiltered fuel pressure and the one on the passenger's side (bottom right) is filtered pressure.
A comparison of the two pressures would give you an idea of the need to change fuel filters but I don't know many that would want to go to the expense of installing two remote sensors and rigging up a switch to flip from one to the other.
I just watch the filtered side. If it starts dropping more than usual, time for a new filter. Once you know what it's doing with a new filter, you'll know when it's getting to be time to change it. My $0.02...
Guzzle, you could find a differential pressure switch and wire up an idiot light to it. Just thinking out loud since we're always thinking of stuff to modify or add...
The reason I ask was I originally had mine filter side with a cheap under hood gauge. Set at 65psi with my RR. Then I put a electrical in cab gauge on the head side of the fuel bowl and was only getting 40 psi. Had to bump up the RR so pre filter read 80psi which gave me 65psi post filter.
