My compass and thermometer that is mounted on the roof console isn't working. I saw a thread on here suggested that I take it apart and look for loose chips and solder it back together. I soldered it, and it worked for maybe a week, then went out. So, I had someone who has more experience soldering, solder it for the second time. And it worked for maybe a day- if that! There is nothing else that is loose on the board. Any ideas as to how this could be fixed? A new one from the dealer costs $189.00!!
The capacitor is bad most likely. The professional who fixed mine said he would replace the resistors (and capacitor for free) because he knew it was faulty from just looking at it. Google or wiki "capacitor plague" and read all about it.
Cool. I'll pull it down and look at it. I know a guy who is pretty good at the electronics stuff... so I know he'll have a capacitor to replace it with!
Good luck! I hope that works for you. I never realized how much i looked up at mine and depended on it until I did not have it. It's a nice feature that I enjoy having. Notice in my signature that I too, drive a 2000.
