Aaron, I have a c-6, as stated in my sig. It was shifting a little hard when I first got it, but I found a ton of vac leaks mostly involved with the EGR, and tuned up the carb a little bit, now it shifts pretty smooth. I have heard good things, and I have heard bad things about the c-6. We had 3 of them in the 86 ford van my family had. The last one had lasted a long time, so I don't know if the first two were bad seeds, or something else wrong.
josiah - the c-6 is an incredible tranny. easy to work on and modify as well. its the one part i havent broken on ray's baja truck so far.....
dave- anything that runs on the belt will make noise regardless of "load". wheel bearings will make noise at a speed (usually always). hpop would be rpm based. turbo is a possibility, but i thought the 6.0 turbo had bushing/bearings not roller bearings?
can you nail it down to a particular gear, mph, or can you make it happen without cruise control?
EDIT: PS pump and ac compressor will make different noises with their respective loads, but not engine/throttle load.
Well Aaron, from the sounds of it, you are certainly trying hard enough.
so far i think we are blaming all breakage on the previous owner of the truck. ray did some great re-fabbing of a lot of the parts, as well as some chassis re-design. i cant wait to see how it does on the track now, especially with the nice new king shocks...
