Ok well I had some problems with my fog lights. I blew two bulbs in a few days then found out there was a leak. Well I fixed the leak and now there is no water coming in. But here is my next problem. All of a sudden both fog lights dont work. I took an electrical tester and the wiring works. But here is the kicker. The bulbs look to be good. The filiment is still in one piece. So I retested them today since I was washing my truck today. Turn the fog lights on and go to test them. Well the passanger side bulb didnt work but the harness works. Go over to the driver side and I took out the bulb and then noticed the bulb is working.
I put the bulb back in and it didnt seem real bright. So I pulled it out again and it was smoking a little and the plug part on the bulb was starting to get hot. Im guessing it was smoking and getting hot cause it was getting ready to blow? Could that be the reason or are they always on the hot side. I shut the switch off for them and turned it back on and then the light didnt work. Everything looks good on it and tested it again with the electrical tester and it still works.
Could it be that the connector in the bulb part is broke? What are the chances that they both broke though? Any help would be help alot thanks.
My 04' Lariat fog lights went out also over two yr. ago, replaced the bulbs and did it again, they were leaking also, just now broke down and bought new bulbs and lenses at ford house, on order, $168 bucks.
Well the housing is fine now. There is no condensation inside them. The bulbs just are going. It was weird that the one all of a sudden started working but was really dim and started to get really hot. Maybe I will go out and get new bulbs and hopefully they work.
My bulbs keep blowing and I see condensation in the boxes. Where is the common place for the leaks? Is it around the connector and if so is there a fix?
The bulbs keep breaking when they blow so the boxes have glass all stuck in the box and is in there pretty good. I took one off once to try to get most of the glass out only for it to happen again.
The heat indicates a high resistance point between the socket and the bulb often caused by a loose connection or corrosion. Look for possible corrosion in the socket. Use electrical contact cleaner (available in a spray can) to clean the socket. Then apply Bulb Grease to the socket before installing the bulbs. You can also use the grease to coat the area where the socket and the housing meet to keep the water out.

To add to his post....make sure the ground side of the lamps(wherever it is) is a good, clean, and tight one.The lamp grounds could either be serised, and going to one point,or individual ground for each.
I looked in the boxes yesterday and noticed what looks like a little hole that opened up from the heat of the bulb right above them. That's probably my problem. I used the same bulbs that I had in there for years with no problems. I think the holes are somewhat new so not sure why they would be there with the same bulbs in.
may seem obvious....but do not touch the bulbs with your bare hand....the grease on your fingers can cause the glass to become too hot and cause the bulb to blow prematurely. I have a pair of white gloves that I keep in a zip lock bag for just handling bulbs...just a thought and a heads up for all who do not know.
Special gloves certainly work, but if you touch the glass on a halogen (other lamp types are not effected), just wipe them off with a paper towel and rubbing alcohol. That'll remove the finger print.
