Dash lights don't work
Installed a new Sony CDX-GT40UW to replace the factory 6 disc radio.
When I connected the new ground to the new wiring harness, into the old radio plug, my dash illumination lights, factory fog lights and running out side lights went out. I replaced the fuse 15A under the steering coumn, moved the ground to another location (local screw). The running out side lights are back on but the dash lights are still out. Also the factory fog lights are not working and the "you left your lights on" warning chime is not working.
All the dash lights are out. Dash light as in the lights behind the tachometer and speedometer. The sensor aka "idiot" lights all work. Is there a way to get to the bulbs or did I do more damage? I really need to see the speedometer while I am driving at night!
The radio worked the entire time, even with the blown fuse.
The switch for the dash lights will control the interior cab lights and turn the main lights on and off. But it is not illumined either.
Upate: Took dash apart and found no obvious problems. For those like me who didn't know. There are only two scress in the radio bracket that hold the piece of dash board front cover around the display . The lights for the display are easy to get to once you take the full unit out. The bulbs also looked ok, not burnt out. The light assemblies are $8.50 on line at Ford.com and $10.50 at my local official factory dealer.
Does any one have any idea what could be wrong?
