ok im new to this and not very sure what to do but i bought a 74 f250 about a year ago and it has what im told a 390 in it but i cannot find anything with the numbers im getting off the block on the side of the block it says 4601f but its upside down on the intake it says 4f12 and c5ae9425c also it says DIF also by the oil filter it says E0A6 of F0A6 can you please help me
Montana_highboy is correct. The ONLY way to know what you have is to measure the stroke.
With Fords there is no way you can use casting numbers to determine what engine you have. The same casting numbers were used for years and on several different displacement engines.
If the fourth character of the VIN is "Y" the truck originally came with a 360, if it's an "H" then it came with a 390.
Just a note, a lot of 360's become 390's on sale day.
