If you tow heavy an AM IC may give you some benefit. If it's for the street, the stocker works great (until you get a bigger turbo or spray).

I've seen guys go the Banks Technicooler route and have no performance gains at all.

IMO, if you want to save money, don't worry about an IC.

What is an "AM IC"? I'm needing a high quality reliable intercooler...

AM - aftermarket
IC - intercooler (which we technically don't have an intercooler, we have a Charge Air Cooler, so you could search for that as well)

This is an 8 yr old thread, there might be newer ones, or might be advisable to start a new thread!

Ah, thanks for the info...I should have figured that out!

Yes, I realize it's an older thread, but I was trying to be respectful and research existing threads to get the answer I needed.

Thanks again for your help!

It is just that I don't know if things have changed in 8 - 10 years.

I think the Banks unit is very well made (at least it was), but expensive.

Haven't seen much on Spearco in years. Mishimoto's seems to be the most common one talked about, but I just don't know if it has a good reliability record or not. There just don't seem to be that many people needing one.

My OEM one is going strong after 12 years and 200k miles.

Absolutely. I actually currently have a Mishimoto unit. I should be hearing back on the warranty claim I submitted soon. It appears that the earlier units had welded end caps, whereas the newer revision offers cast end caps. After thinking about this, it makes sense that a rounded profile of the end cap would be more appropriate for this application. In a broad sense, under constant load, the IC essentially becomes an air tank (pressure vessel). Air tanks always include rounded caps on the end (versus square joints) to prevent seam stress.

If it turns out I need to source a new one, I'll start a new thread to see what's currently recommended. I've tried comparing technical data sheets, but the "testing" that has been done is pretty loose...and it's difficult to nail down exact pressure ratings for these charge air coolers.

Thanks again!
