I've been trying to diagnose an oil leak, after cleaning off old oil
grime, replacing filter/oil/plug I restarted and oil seems to be
streaming out of the oil pressure switch location - this was the most
grimy area so my guess is this switch has been leaking and I made it
more apparent after moving it around while cleaning around it. After
looking in alldata I see there is a TSB for this switch telling you to
replace it with a different switch and a resistor jumper so the gauge
works. Motorcraft lists it as part 9278 but doesn't specify whether this cable is included. I've also read on another forum that the new switch
doesn't fit the V8 engines because of the space and you need an extender to move it out. When I search non-OEM parts I get a different looking
part. I just want to stop leaking oil, not really concerned with whether or not the oil gauge works because this truck has seen its day and its
just an around town vehicle if I ever get it to stop leaking oil. Can
anyone tell me what part I really need for a 5.0/V8/88 F150 xlt lariat , will it fit or do I need this extender, and does this need to be an OEM or will an aftermarket suffice? I can't easily get to this switch so
the more I know ahead of time the better. And any tips on getting it out would be great - nothing unscrews easily in this truck! Thanks.
You are right! I went back and looked at it and it is 87 and before, sorry! Thanks for pointing that out. That explains why the part didn't look right!
alldata lists it as a switch (sender) so I didn't distinguish, according to the part number for the 88 its a switch. Sorry to be so confusing! I shouldn't have posted until I had enough coffee in me! I ordered the switch from ford. I'm assuming looking at the part that I need to unscrew the wire connector and then unscrew the switch? I can't get much visibility to this part so its worth asking. Thanks again.
