In the fullness of time and the return of my boyhood thinking... my '54 F100 sports a 292 on to which I plan to install an Edelbrock 553 with 3 deuces. This raised the cam question... where and what might be needed to keep up with this type of carburation? My quest is less that of racer and more just mellow hot rod. The only thing I can afford is time... I get that in the summer as I am a teacher... thus I have little money. With this in mind, has anyone any suggestions? thanks. himmelberg
do a web search for red's headers. he can hook you up with cams, headers and other y block goodies. he is located in northern california and he builds really nice stuff.
John Mummert at www.y-block.com/ sells a line of camshafts. Tell him what you have he'll probably sell you a high lift cam with moderate duration. Then you have to tune the carbs to get the characteristics you want.
Tell me about you y-block. I'm assembling a 40 over 56 292 for my wife's 55 Vicky. I have ECG-C heads that are rebuilt but I recently got some ECG-G heads as well. I have both the stock 55 2bbl intake and a 57 Tbird ECG-B Autolite/Holley 4bbl compatible intake. I got a stock cam with the engine gaskets kit but I'm still thinking of selling that and getting one of John's high lift grinds. This will go in front of a FMX transmission bolted to the stock bellhousing.
