I did a search and the info i got was around 8 years old so i want to ask the question again. My 4x4 Off Road decals on my 97 are getting shabby. i think i have found a set of replacements online that i like, but before i do anything i want to make sure of some things. . . Now, my truck is 13 years old with the original decals and they have been cracked looking for quite a while. I want to make sure that i can still get them off relatively easy.. will the heat gun trick still work on these? Also... my truck is black, and as i said . . . 13 years old... how bad is the discoloration going to be? ? ? it wouldnt be an issue, but im not replacing the stickers with exact replicas and i dont want it to look gooffy.... Thanks for any info guys!
haha welll..... she has some pretty bad oxidation going on with the paint.. i need to get the buffer out and the polish and go to town... i may just wait untill they come off on there own.. the clear layer has already come off so the rest of the sticker may not be far behind. i also have to decide if i want to repaint the truck or not... id hate to put new decals on and then have to take em off to repaint the truck.

if the rest of the truck is in good shape, re paint it. my truck is in GREAT shape so this summer im fixing the little spots of rust on the doors and body, removing all the stupid trim and repainting the entire truck. im also gonna put some 08 emblems on it and FX4 stickers on the bed. might eventually do a 98 front bumper swap too...

the one thing im not going to do is the bumper swap.lol. i see so many with the 99+ front end that mine has really grown on me. at a bear minimum im replacing my rockers this summer and i have two spots on my bed that need attention. the majority of the paint isnt terrible, but there a quite a few clear coat scratches, and if i have the rust fixed, and just that part repainted im affraid it will make my truck look bad.. kinda patched together. im not sure what all of this will cost but im thinkin maybe do the metal work and then take her to maco for one of those 5 or 6 hundred dollar paint jobs.
if i were you, id take it to a body shop. not maco. maco hires right outa highschool sometimes. you'll save a bunch of money at a body shop if you do all the prep work yourself.
the reason i need new rockers is that the PO did not know what a underbody carwash was and lived in a city that spreads salt like there is no tomoro.lol
im pretty confident with my abilities doing the stuff on the bed of the truck that is relatively straight forwad... but the rockers are a different story. and ill do stuff like removing all the trim and what not just to cut down all the costs that i can. actually, one of my best friend's dad works at a body shop, that his dad owns.lol so i may get a bit of a discount, and i know for a fact that they do REALLY good work. but i have no idea what it will cost.. i would think maybe 50 bucks an hour and maybe 25- 30 hours worth of work.. so labor plus materials somwhere around 2 grand... but i have no idea. that is probably way cheap.lol.
anywhoo.... i am at this moment living at Purdue University in Indiana, pretty close to the Illinois state line. but when im not in school i live in Connersville which is about a half hour from the Ohio state line. in between Indianapolis and Dayton ohio. ( basically somewhere you probably have never heard of)lol
i guess im lucky. ill be doing everything for the price of the paint. my uncles owns the body shop that i work at.
dont forget LMC makes patch panels. just cut out and weld in. ill be doing that on some panels on my truck.
thats what i was originally planning on doing. my girlfriends brother is really good with a mig, so i was gonna have him do it/ teach me. but the pannels dont show much detail online so i dont know if they will cover everything that i need to cut out. im more concerned about up underneath the truck where you cant see it unless your laying on your back.

im really leaning towards the fx4 camo, i like both but i kinda like the silver, but im still not sure. the link should be at the end now, if not i will re post it.
