I removed my Superchips 1715 87 tune last night and took the truck out for a little spin on my test run area. The tune made virtually no seat of the pants difference other than speeding up the time taken to complete a gear change. Shift firmness still good probably due to the RV/Tow shift improvement kit. Tire burnouts still similiar with out the tune.
I now have a 5 Star Tuner coming, I hope its better than the Superchips.
By the way the Banks headers have so far made the best improvement hands down.
Well, I installed the 5star 87 octane perfomance tune tonight and while driving to my test run area I was wondering if it was going to be worth it.
The shifts did not seem quite as firm as the Superchips.
Lined up to tire burn test area and could not believe the difference!!!
It will burn the tires thru to second gear now. I felt like a kid again and if I am not careful I will be buying tires. I naturally had to show the wife and kids.
As far the shifting goes it is plenty crisp if you are on it. I also like the way the TC locks up now, much improved. Seems like the exhaust note even changed at idle, deeper richer sounding.
I think you get more bang for the buck with the tune over headers now, but both is very nice. Now for some PI heads....
Been there, done that. I had to laugh because each successful stud extraction felt like a big accomplishment to me as well. I would even tell my wife "I got another one out!" She didn't think much of it though...
On mine I extracted 7 (I think) by drilling a small hole through the stud and using an Easy-Out. The last one I had to do I broke my drill bit off in the stud and thought I was really screwed, but someone on here mentioned welding a nut to it and backing it out that way. I have access to a small mig welder and kept zapping the stud until I had a gob of weld out to the surface of the head. I then held a nut up and filled in the center. It then came right out. The distance of the glob of weld between the stud and nut was probably close to a 1/4". I was thrilled to say the least.
Anyway, good luck, have patience, & go slow. Mine took me almost 2 weeks of evenings and a Saturday to do.

+1 this is a great way to remove broken studs. The heat helps breaking the rust barrier and the nut gives you purchase.
Saggys, what else do you have done to your V10 besides tuner and headers?
99 V10 4.30 Gears, Volant cold air intake, Transgo RV/Tow shift improve kit, Banks Torque tubes and Y pipe, Flowmaster 70 muffler, Custom tune from 5 Star and a whole bunch of suspension, tie down and hitch mod's for camping.
Holly smoke, you would think Krewat is getting kickbacks from SCT or somthing.HA. SCT looks pretty good, just exploring my options.
SCT is the stuff for the diesels too and it's a fact that the man doing the tuning MORE than helps. Daylight and dark on tuners and tuning even on the same truck. Ever ridden in a SCT tuned Cobra??? Talk about some OMG.
