Why was it necessary to change the pulley? A pulley is a pulley unless it's damaged. Of course, you wouldn't need a pulley puller if you installed a new pulley, but the cost goes up.
Please enlighten me if I'm wrong.

The reason is that you're not CHANGING the pulley. The pump comes without one so you are removing it from the old and replacing it on the new pump. remember to put those bolts in first
I understand what you are saying Jack but, my question was directed towards those that replace the pump and install a new pulley rather than reuse the old one.
Hence, a pulley is a pulley unless it's damaged. As action4478 indicated if the pulley has been R&R'd numerous times creating a loose, pressed fit then that is a damaged pulley. jmho
I love this forum, thanks for the good info. I took my truck to a dealer and they gave me a price of almost 500.00 to replace this vacuum pump, thank goodness my son's are mechanical enough to do it for me. After market pump from KOI for seventy something, big difference!
