vacuum pump oil?
I was currious as to what type of oil one would put inside the vacuum pump on an 83 F250s 6.9L engine?
I would immagine either SAE 30 non detergent or 46 hydraulic oil would be good but am not certain.
I have a buddy who wants to change the oil in his and he asked me. So I am setting out to find an awnser.
Thanks for any help.

i recently pulled mine to swap it out to electric due to hydroboost brake system.
i dunno what it is,but it sure stank!!! changing it can't be a bad idea lol.
probably anything at all will be better than what's in it,if it's original oil in there lol.
Tom,you have to pull it apart.probably everyone should swap the oil, gear lube, whatever it takes in these things.you'll see why by the smell when you pull it.......nasty old burnt oil.you'd think it was older than gods dog.

nah i just tossed it quickly.it really stank lol.
it's very obvious if you tackle the job.don't get any on ya,you'll stink for days lol.
only reason i took it off from the pulley/separated it or whatever, was because i was gunna see about leaving just the pulley and keeping my belt, but that couldn't work very well, and besides it would have spread that old oil all over if i run it.decided to ditch the whole works and buy a shorter belt.it's so easy to figure out, there's no need for instruction.just dunno what it should technically be filled back up with once you flush the nasty out.odd's are whatever you put back in will heat up and burn just the same haha cus it's such a little case.whatever you pick, probably best to use synthetic.maybe some mobil 1 gear lube or something.if it's too thick,it'll probably thin right out anyway in short order.but don't let me burn up your pulley! lol.pick whatever you feel is best.

The guy said the oil was milky like it had water in it.
May have to check it out and see how thick it is and go with a guesstimate on what to throw in.
A vacuum pump should not need a terribly heavy oil to lubricate the bearings. I dont know what type of pump it is since I aint seen it as of yet. Thanks for the input though. I will talk to him tomorrow.

tjc, you're luckier than i am! 2 of mine have lost their ability to suck, and the other lost the bearings as mentioned above. the most recent one took about 30 seconds of running well above idle speed to charge the brake booster enough to get one hit on the pedal with assist.
