Totally non-scientific observation on my truck ...
When coolant temp gauge is just to the left of "N" EOT is 160*.
When coolant temp gauge is centered on the "N" EOT is 170*.
When coolant temp gauge is 3/4 on the "R" EOT is 200*.
At idle with EOT @ 160* injector pulse width is 1.3 ms.
At idle with EOT @ 200* injector pulse width is 1.0 ms.
. Looks like the 203 is in my future but i hate messing with that stupid housing!
I would get a new housing at the same time they are not that much diesel site has them as well saves on the cursing down the road when the old one will not stop leaking lol
I wonder if that is the same Tom S as over on PSN? If so then (I know you've been a member for a while) Welcome to FTE! I don't think I've seen you post over here before so glad to see you around.
I bought the DashDAQ and it also reports a random number for the coolant temp.
Fired it up the other morning, coolant temp was -247 F, so I put on more cloths.
After reading through the 97 service CD, engine oil temp is the only thing the PCM reads.
After reading this thread, my next question is where is the second coolant temp sensor?
No mention in the service CD and I can only find the one in the water pump by the thermostat on my 97.
Now I can see I need to pay attention to the injector pulse width in relation to engine oil temp to see where mine is running.
You can get the adapter and sender to make it read true, all it takes is a little more $$$.
figures.... everything is a little more money. i'm happy with getting to see my oil temp, PW, IPR DC, ICP and the diagnostic stuff. later on i will probably get the adapter and sender from u with another guage...
OK took it for a spin and was getting on the throttle a little more than usual and all i could get up to was 175. Before I started Oil temp was exactly what the air temp was so the sender was at least correct there. Mileage feels down, its just past half, dropping fast, and have gone 135 miles on the front tank. Don't pull anything most of the time so a 203 is probably a good investment for me just wish it wasn't like 50 bucks after shipping to get 1 thermostat.
