Well that's what autoenginuity is saying. This was after driving around for about 2 hours and hooking it up as soon as we got home. Noticed the coolant temp needle never reached the N i NORMAL and was curious as to what the temp was. I know there are 2 senders, one for the guage and one for the PCM both are reading low so maybe my thermostat is stuck? Definately want an excuse for the dieselsite 203 thermostat and this might be my ticket. maybe the 39 was celcius, but the others aren't.
If you have an auto Trans , the PCM does not report coolant temp ...one sending unit is for the gauge , the other is for the light ...If it is in Celsius , 39 = 102 F
My Wag ,is coolant temp is always 39 , warm or cold
The only trucks that it would affect are the 6-speeds. All automatics do not have a separate coolant temp sensor, other than the sensor for the gauge. The PCM does not have an input for coolant temps.
However, the 6-speeds do have a secondary sensor mounted on the water pump, and it does input directly to the PCM.
my manual trans will throw a random number every time for coolant temp. One time i check it on the scanguage will show me say 170* then the next time it will say 250*. it's weird, but i go by the oil temp anyways. coolant temp shouldn't be far off from the oil temp and my oil temp gets up around 203-205*. My truck is a '95 model thus came stock with a 203* T-stat so thats pretty much right on the money.
Both coolant sensors are not connected to the PCM in any way.
Dash temp gauge is a direct connection to the coolant sensor.
Dash overheat light is a direct connection to a secondary coolant sensor.
The 2 senders thing was just something that I thought I read on here somewhere. I did read the oil temp at the same time and it was 160 so that is for sure too low. Maybe that's where my mileage is going cause it sucks at the moment. Looks like the 203 is in my future but i hate messing with that stupid housing!

160* oil temp is wayyy low. next time you go to start it cold put AE on it and compare oil temp to ambient temp on a dead cold engine. if the oil temp on a dead cold engine is way off from the ambient temp you could have an oil temp sensor problem. you oil temp reading that low is making your timing too high thus messing with your mileage. if the ambient temp and cold engine temp are near the same then i'd say t-stat.

Makes sense strokin tatsch, thanks will do that maybe tonight if I get time.
