I'd be going from a '01 2V 3.73 rearend to an '08 3V with 4.30s. I think it will be quite a change especially pulling the RV around.
I never drove one of the 2v V10s, but the 3v and newer trans. with 4.30 gears makes it a monster for pulling . I've pulled 15k with mine and was plenty happy. Even if it uses a little more fuel I don't regret have the V10 at all. Nothing better than cheap, simple preventive maintenance and enjoying life.
My 2008 V-10 is a Job 2 truck and it is the best running truck from Ford that I have ever owned, including IDI and 2 7.3's. I have the stock 4.10 and it kicks butt, so the 4.30 gears should be an even better tow beast. Don't forget that 75% of the Class C RV motor homes are running V-10's and the new TroqueShift tranny is is the best in the business. The tow/haul feature is fantastic. I would also recommend the Airaid intake system and the DiabloSport Predator programmer set in the "middle" 91 octane setting. It rocks.
