2007 Diesel Vs 2008 V10

Can anyone offer me any advise on getting a 2007 F350 6.0L Diesel vs a 2008 F250 6.8L V10 ?
Pros and cons on each if you have experience with these.
Local dealer has both on lot and I am not sure what to do. Both tow about the same weight so that is not an issue with me.
The 2007 F350 is 44980. MSRP minus $4000. rebate ( $ 40980. )
The 2008 F250 V10 is 39220. MSRP minus $1500. rebate ( $ 37,720. )

Do a search on this. There are TONS of discussions on the subject. A V10 owwner will advise a V10 - a diesel owner will advise a diesel! It comes down to "What do YOU want!"

Not entirely true, it really depends on factors that are on an individual basis. If towing weight isn't the issue then frequency of towing, distances of towing and then you go to distances that you travel frequently without towing. I would actually consider the weight that you would be towing(some people argue it is better to have more, in general without knowing other factors that would be true), in other words if your towing a bumber pull(that leads another question, you pulling bumber or gooseneck(or 5th wheel, there is a difference between the two)) with 5k and it is maybe once a month you could get by with a v-8 gas f-250(depending on what gears it has on it, you could haul a good significant bit). Also it doesn't necessarily follow that it comes down to what you want if you are worried about the pros and cons of each and address the concerns first and then from what you have determined that would fit your situation, THEN choose what you would like to have(not as fun as starting off choosing what you like, but your talking about two differant animals(granted they perform the same function) and with just about polar opposite pros and cons. If your not worried about the pros and cons of each then by all means get what you want, but if you have some concerns and you want to address those concerns properly then you have to consider what you need as opposed to what you want(sometimes those two just don't go together). If you are concerned about choosing the right truck that fits your needs then I would consider the following(not an entire list by any means, just what I would look at):

What trailer weight am I hauling and is the truck rated to handle that load
What type of hauling am I doing
Bumper or goosneck(or 5th wheel)
How often am I hauling and for what distances
Even if you don't haul that often, but it's for huge distance that
would have an affect on your decision
What are my trips like when I'm not hauling
City and/or Highway(which is more etc..)

You might have different concerns, but if you have concerns that you want to properly address look at those first, and then try to get what you want from that, if you just want to get want you want(which is fine) then just think about which one appeals to you the most.

resale values are another thing to think about.....the Diesel is by far superior in that category.

WOW!!!......That is a dilema!!

I'm a pro-V10 advocate.

Don't like the initial cost of the PSD.

Don't like the NVH of the diesel.

Don't think the economy is there when ALL things are factored (probably the most debated subeject when it comes between the 2 powerplants)

The oil-burner is a no-brainer if towing max-loads a LOT or if you tow at altitude.
And yes, a PSD is much easier to sell when the time comes. (even though book value does not gets you your full $$$ back)

HOWEVER, I really cannot stand the '08's front end, and with a difference of only $3,000.......it could actually put me on the fence regarding the 2.

PLEASE drive them back to back and tell us what you think.....the subjective opinions on what one likes regarding smoothness/responsiveness may help you make up your mind.

Just remember the 2008 V-10 will take about 150 hours or about 7000 miles for the engine to come alive. Do not base your buying decision on first driving impressions. Check out the V-10 forum and the diesel forums for more info.

In this case, if he does decide to go with a diesel, he has a good chance of haggling to get that price down. That is if the dealer is trying to do away with the 07s to make room for the new models. I know when I got a truck in 02, I had hit it right when they were trying to make room for the new models and I was able to get a real good deal without haggling too much because they were wanting to make room for the newer models. There are a few other haggling tricks that one could use, but the biggest advantage that he has at this point is playing on that chance that the dealer is trying to get rid of that 07 to make more room for that 08.

That's what I'm getting at.............at $3,000 it would make me think; any more $$$ off it's that much better.

IF he can stand the different driving dynamics......the fact that I drive 7.3's and 6.0's at work makes me glad to get back into my V10......but that's just me.

As far as the diesel fuel being cheaper.........during the 1 year of owning my VW TDI, it's flip-flopped 3 times with diesel slowly creeping within 4 cents of RUG the other day.
