Can't figure this out.

Hey all,
My truck doesn't run worth crap any more and I have searched the last 2 days for info and haven't found what Im liiking for yet.

Symtoms: when starting out it lugs really bad and sometimes I have to stop and hold the throttle to the floor to keep it running. it will slowly rev back up then I can try to go again. The times I have actually been able to get on the highway and up to speed (70mph) it will run just fine. the problem seems to be at low rpms. It acts like it is running out of fuel, so i am thinking it may be the fuel pump and hopefully not the injectors. I checked my trouble codes and got nothing except air intake sensor and Keep alive memory which I have had since I put my programmer in 2 years ago and took out my air box. so I know they are not the cause.

Truck: 96 PSD, edge evolution programmer, 3"down pipe, 6637 air filter, shimmed FPR, I think thats all. 221000 miles.
Please help, I need my truck back.

I have had nothing but trouble from edge programmers in these trucks but that said I'd start with checking the fuel pressure and then the filter.

There is a screen in the fuel bowl. Open it up and look on the drivers side up near the top. There is a little ~1/4" hole. Take a q-tip with the cotton removed and clean the screen that is in that hole.

Change the fuel filter while you are in there and drain the fuel from the bowl.

Yeah I know about the FPR screen and I clean it every time I change the fuel filter which is avery 6000 miles. I am going to buy a fuel pressure gauge today and try that. Thanks for the info but by all means dont stop here the more info the better. Thanks again.

You can just check the fuel pressure with a normal tire stick gauge if you want. it will give you a pretty good reading.

i will start with the obvious, take out the edge chip and see if the problem gets worse or better. my friends truck is the exact oposite right now, does exactly what you said, dog, slow to rev but he puts the diablo back in and it is very much factory again, running tip top. these problems have been popping up more and more latley and no solutions...

Ok here is an Update so far. I checked the fuel pressure and it is 54 psi so I think the fuel pump is toast. I don't think the injectors have ever had the O-Rings changed but dont know as I am not the origonal owner. I think the Injectors are OK though cause now after changing the fuel filter it Idles just great but when I put a load on the engine it acts like it is running out of fuel. Does this sound like fuel pump?

Ok so if the fuel pump is Ok then Where do I go now, Injectors?, Wiring?, Maybe the HPOP?, or something else? I am stumped and it shows no DTC's either. Thanks for all the help.

Yes I took the chip out and it is running stock program and it still wont run with a load on it, but It will idle all day just fine. It looks like im going to have to take it in to a shop and see how much they work me over. I hate taking anything into a shop cause they all do their best to screw you over rather than honestly help you. Thanks again for the help. =(

disconnect your map sensor and see if it changes any.
Its right over by the air control stuff on the firewall under the hood
Thats exactly how mine ran when i forgot to hook it back up.

Give it a healthy dose of power service diesel clean stuff. Empty your fuel bowl and fill it up with power service. Maybe it will clean your injectors. Or, Big Bill can tell you about seafoam.
