Here's a run down on what's been happening: took it to a ford dealership for a vehicle check and oil change (mobil 5w40). 1hr later in a car wash would not start. had it towed back to ford, they called a main harness and #3 injector (no explanation as to why).
Since then had a the wires checked,no problems.
Had remote starter crtl unit/bypass unit replaced.
New batteries.
Coolant Flush.
Another oil change (indepentant shop,15w40 oil)
Starts great when cold (ie. first thing in the morning or sitting all day).
Runs great, no smoke, hesitation or loss of power.
Scanned codes, got P2614 for the hard start.
also got B1359 - ign run/access circuit failure
and B1483 - brake pedal input circuit failure.
When she won't start, takes 20mins or so and trying to start. Cranks fine, just won't turn over.
when she does finally start, she starts like normal.
Ideas, thoughts,fixes.
If I can'tfix it soon,it's gone and I'll buy the wife (her truck) a yukon or escalade.
It has an aftermarket (polar start I believe). HAve not had a single problem with it. used the same make of starter in my last truck, and no problems there either.
As for cranking - turn truck on, wait for glow plug light to go out and then start (or try to). It seems to crank fine. can here the starter engaging. Brother in-law (heavy duty mechanic) says it sounds like it just not getting fuel to start. Once she does start, she purrs like a kitten, no smoke or anything.
Sounds like a problem with the HPOP system. Could be a very small leak in the HPOP system. Common symptoms are it starts fine when cold but not when its hot. When the oil is thinner it leaks easier....
When it is hot and will not start try unplugging the ICP sensor. If it does start you have a leak in the High pressure oil system.
You don't want to run for extended periods with the ICP unplugged if the pressure is in fact low its really hard on the injectors...
The ICP is located (CLICK HERE) on the right hand valve cover on your truck. If you unplug the ICP it will use a default setting to start the truck. The P2614 could be a bad connection at the PCM or sensor for the crank shaft sensor. Have you had battery troubles in the past or low voltage?
Started fine today. problem is now it is severely sluggish off the line, lidling rough and belching white smoke.
Is this an injector failure? could my hardstart problems been caused by a failing injector? Ford toldmeto replace #3 injector,so i guess that's next unless you all think something else is the culprit.
