The radio noise is gone!!! The last two sets of Motorcraft ASF 32C were making lots of radio noise unless I had a loose pug wire both times.
As the computer was going to have to readjust anyway for the new plugs, I cleaned my K&N air filter today then took a twenty mile test drive. It still is little rough at 1700 rpm but tolerable now even though I don't like it.
However, the Bronco has never run this good in the 40K miles I have owned it. Next, 250 miles towing. If I get 12.5 mpg I will be very pleased.
The results were 11.7 mpg with the trailer and about 1,000 lbs. However, it did downshift less on hills and maintained set cruise control speed much better. Went 293 miles, compressor off, windows up, 65 mph on cruise control, strong head and cross winds. I'm satisfied.
One year update on the NGK plugs. Remember, I was chasing the 1700 rpm, 35 mph light throttle rough running? Then I chased transmission problems for six months and the Bronco sat idle. I replaced MLPS, TPS, VSS, removed and inspected wiring harness, changed shift solenoid pack twice. The problem was the PCM (computer). After the PCM repair the shifting issues were corrected.
Getting back to the 1700 rpm issue, the PCM repair fixed it also. Under that speed something is "telling" it to upshift and drop the rpm to 1300-1400 rpm but something is not ready for the shift. Bottom line, it no longer stays at 1700 long enough to run rough. There is probably only 3000-4000 miles on the NGKs but I still like them so far.
i installed the V power plugs in november and i am a firm believer they are a good plug for the 302. i had autolites in before but the v power has more power. i think carquest price is like $1.50 each. while you are at it, get the gold box carquest spark plug wires! world of difference
