allright guys i just picked up a 351W out of a 90'F-350 with a ZF5spd...now before the question gets asked no this isnt going into the 2002 that got sold a while ago, but im swapping this into a toyota and i dont have the cash for a full on rebuild at the moment, my motor is about to blow and this is something ive wanted to do forever, and im trying to do this without a machine shop,...now questions..
anybody els re-ring a 351 and have a thread on it? that would be very helpful
also what can i get by with not replacing?, re-ring kit comes with rings gaskets and bearings, i know i SHOULD replace the water pump n oil pump... but the cheaper the better, i just need this to last long enough to save money for a good build..also a link to a good rebuild thread would be most helpful also thanks guys
also how are the stock intake n carb on these motors? hard to dial in/rebuild?? its EFI now but i dont have the time to wire it in so i plan on picking up a stock itake n carb for now...thanks
If the motor was running simply put a carb on it an run it, any money you spend on a half-assed rebuild will be wasted because it won't make the motor last any longer... may actually shorten it's life if you change the rod bearings without machining.
makes sense, would be why i havnt seen any threads on it.. just didint want it to smoke, but if itll keep it runnin longer... ill just try some of the gimmics n see if they work, also got any good rebuild threads out there? been searchin but theres none that are too in depth just some pics thrown up of b4 n after and what they got in it....anyone do their own??
You can rering but if the cylinders aren't round and straight it probably wouldn't do you any good, depending on how bad they are. Also reusing the old leaky valves & valve seats on new rings isn't a good idea. If the water pump doesn't leak reuse it. Take the oil pump apart, if it checks out ok then reuse it too.
