re-ring?

allright guys i just picked up a 351W out of a 90'F-350 with a ZF5spd...now before the question gets asked no this isnt going into the 2002 that got sold a while ago, but im swapping this into a toyota and i dont have the cash for a full on rebuild at the moment, my motor is about to blow and this is something ive wanted to do forever, and im trying to do this without a machine shop,...now questions..

anybody els re-ring a 351 and have a thread on it? that would be very helpful

also what can i get by with not replacing?, re-ring kit comes with rings gaskets and bearings, i know i SHOULD replace the water pump n oil pump... but the cheaper the better, i just need this to last long enough to save money for a good build..also a link to a good rebuild thread would be most helpful also thanks guys

If the motor was running simply put a carb on it an run it, any money you spend on a half-assed rebuild will be wasted because it won't make the motor last any longer... may actually shorten it's life if you change the rod bearings without machining.

Go get yourself a copy of this.. Amazon.com: How to Rebuild Small-Block Ford Engines (0075478568918): Tom Monroe: Books, it has lots of pics and directions to walk you through the complete process with common hand tools.

You can rering but if the cylinders aren't round and straight it probably wouldn't do you any good, depending on how bad they are. Also reusing the old leaky valves & valve seats on new rings isn't a good idea. If the water pump doesn't leak reuse it. Take the oil pump apart, if it checks out ok then reuse it too.
