Crankshaft removal

Crankshaft removal

Anyone know how to remove the crankshaft from under the truck? I got the oil pump and pan off and inspected the crankshaft to find its scared and the bearings read .030 so we assume its been turned already.

Never heard of any one trying to remove a crank in a truck . You are going to have to remove the transfer case, the transmission and both drive shafts then the flywheel. Then on the other end you have to pull the water pump, front cover and then the timing chain . With all that work I have found it easier to just yank the motor and do it right.

Agreed. Removing the engine may sound like a big job, but removing the whole crank while the engine's still in the truck is even bigger. You'll probably spend less time and effort in the long run by removing the engine first.

on top of what they said if the bearings are that scared the rod diameter needs to be checked. if they are out of round and you put it back together you will be doing new bearings in no time. if the truck was running ok with decent oil pressure you can put a new set of bearings in it and go another 10k maybe more. its always a crap shoot when your on a budget. this is coming from an experienced machinist/engine builder.
