While mulling around my engine and vacuum lines I notice the vacuum tree on the back of the intake manifold is loose and oil/gunk is coming out around what looks like the threads. Couple of questions. 1) Can I just tighten the tree with a wrench? 2) If yes, does the whole tree rotate as I tighten it? If so I have to remove the vacuum hoses. Thanks.
Thanks. I am curious how this got loose though. It's never been touched in 30+ years and unless the threads are stripping, how could it rotate with all the hoses on it?
It's possible that it never was tightened down all the way in the first place and over time what seal was there now is broke and leaking more. I'd actually take out the tree, clean and inspect it to make sure there is no cracks and then take some teflon tape and reinstall it.
