Vacuum Tree / Manifold

First off I have a 94 Ranger with a 4.0

I keep having a reoccuring problem with the caps and hoses comming of the vacuum manifold/tree.

The tree has 2 positions that are covered by rubber caps, they seem to get brittle after a year or so and thus constantly need replacing.

I am looking for a more perminate solution since it seems Ford half assed this design, and I have idle/stalling problems whenever these caps come off.

The other 2 positions have hoses that are NOT brittle at all, they just seem way to loose to effectivly stay on, yet they look OEM to me.

Would someone out there post a picture of their vacuum tree, I would like to what someone elses looks like. Maybe mine was jury rigged at some time?

Is the area "wet" with tranny fluid? This could be causing the caps to deteriorate quickly if your vacuum modulator is beginning to fail. (I'm assuming you have an automatic tranny). I haven't experienced this, but I understand if the modulator fails, it usually sends tranny fluid up to the tee. As soon as I can get my Ranger back from my son, I'll take a pic and post it here...If I can figure out how to do it!
