As you've already indicated, the latest flash provides a warning (wrench light) and sets a code when the EOT/ECT exceeds a certain temperature differential. I believe it's 15 degrees. Now a wrench light could be caused by other things than just the EOT/ECT differential. However, if you have a code reader or access to one, once the light is set you could pull the codes, which should indicate if the EOT/ECT differential is the culprit. Then you could take corrective action before it becomes a major issue leading to EGR cooler failure and/or HG issues.
I have ordered an Edge insite monitor and will connet it to the ODBII plug when it arrives. Thanks for the indication of the position. I found it.
Then I will monitor the two temperatures and I have to find out how to set an alarm. My question is also this: Is is possible to read the currently installed flash using the Edge insite or is there another reader neccessary?
I had my EGR cooler begin leaking at 90000. It wasn't a catastrophic failure, I began to notice white smoke in the mornings (burning off accumulated coolant) the it would go away, my degas bottle began to get lower and lower on coolant. The dealership told me it was a good idea to replace the oil cooler at same time. I bought a Blletproof Diesel Egr cooler, the Ford oil cooler and Ford EGR valve with all gaskets and o-rings (I saved money and the oiler cooler and EGR are covered by warranty).
It was quite expensive and to help assure no more plugging of oil cooler I installed a Dieselsite coolant filter. I will check the filter in 200 more miles and hopefully see a lot of crap being pulled out.
My advice is to wait, unless money is burning in your pocket. The failure will be slow. I still check my degas bottle once a week to put my mind at ease.

Thank you for your advice. In the meantime I have installed an Edge insight and read a difference between 11-13* which indicates that there is some plugging already. I have ordered a coolant filter and I will continue to monitor the temp and will additionally check the degas bottle as you indicated. I hope with this approach to save some money at the moment.
