yea and theres a 2wd 1500 ram with a 700hp cummins in it on dieselpowermag.com that gets 50mpg but that is a lot lighter of a vehicle and a completely different monster in itself.
Does the 6.4 use 5 injections per cycle @ 30k psi?
From International;
"The industry’s most precise high-pressure fuel injection system features electronically-actuated piezo injectors that deliver up to five independent injections per cycle for smooth, full combustion. This results in low NVH and smooth acceleration for exceptional driveability. The MaxxForce 7 is the quietest V-8 diesel engine in North America, registering only 68.9 dBA in a low idle test."
anyone remember the early 03 6.0 liters? they had multiple injection on those, I believe only 2-3, and were just as quiet as the new piezo injector engines such as the 6.4 and 6.7, but that didnt last cause the heui injectors could not handle the duty cycle so they reflashed them.
Does anyone figure in the cost of the urea into the fuel mileage of the new diesels? Just wondering. I get 20 mpg real easy with my big tool box / 100 gal fuel tank in the back. 15 or 16 usually with this 2600 pound beast in the back. I think I'm gonna stick with what I have. Plus I don't need to pull my cab off to fix anything on the side of the road.
Nothing like digging up a 9 month old thread that had nothing but speculative exchanges to ask a question that really makes no sense. The cost of DEF has nothing to do with fuel mileage. It's cost may impact your fuel costs a little. My average DEF usage costs me less than 1.5 cents per gallon of diesel fuel used.
I did enjoy reading this whole thread. The thinking of 9 months ago sure was different than reality today. You do not need to pull the cab to fix the 2011, maybe time for a new truck, eh.
I just came across this looking up what people have been getting for mileage. I have been wanting to get a new one but not after seeing my neighbors 2010 get 2 new engines already. What a piece. He is lucky to get 12 mpg in it too. He misses his old dodge now. I haven't worked for Ford in a few years but I do remember having to pull way too many cabs on the newer ones. So the 2011 is changed where that's no longer necessary? That would be nice.
I'm never getting rid of this truck. It's a good one. But a new one for grocery getting would be nice plus my wife loves those new heated seats. I'm just waiting for a wrecked one to hit the local junk yard now so I can get a set.
Waiting to see if its going to have as many problems as SOME of the 6.0s. might get a used one later. Or completely rebuild my 7.3 OBS (in another 10 years).
I just took a trip yesterday from Austin to Kerrville Tx and got 19.7 mpg with no load and that is country highway driving with a few stops and lights. Around town about 15-16.
