My old 2008 Reg Cab 4x4 6.4 SRW no load couldn't get 15 on the interstate. I just traded it for a 2010 and it gets the same. I don't see how the truck weighing almost the same can get in the 20's? I've been wrong before and hope the claims are correct. The six speed transmission will help.
I also drive a 2010 Prius to work as a commuter. All the claims for 60 MPG's is way off on the Prius. The best I've ever done is 52. My average is 48 MPG.
its all about power and fuel delivery. the new 6.7 uses a system that fires several small injections instead of one big one. this allows it to start a flame front early, and add fuel later, boostin the torque. think about what would be more efficient: one world strong man liftin a compact car, or 6 or 7 regular dudes?
also, my parents own a prius. when they drive it, they get like 38 to 43. when i drive it, i get 46 to 50. and im supposed to be the one with "the lead foot..."

Thats marketing hype to make the ordinary seem extraordinary.......... The 6.4 does the same thing.
the 6.4 may do it, but like so many things ford has done since the mid and late 80s, they rushed it, and didnt take the time to refine tune. (early ford EFI anyone?) now, not only do they get more power, they get better fuel economy, and a MUCH quieter engine.

Theyv'e had 3 years to refine the tune and have had several reflashes so its not like the opportunity wasn't there.
Quieter than the 6.4? Yes, probably. "MUCH" quieter? If you have a low threshold for capitalizing "MUCH", maybe.
I really really hope the new 6.7 gats the 18-20 mpg that it is being hyped up to get. To get "best in class mpg" they have to out do the duramax and cummins. Now not all of those are getting great mpg's but I know several guys with the 08 duramax's that are getting the 18-20 mpg. I only know 1 guy with the 6.7 cummins that gets 18-20 mpg.
My 6.4 wont get better than 12.5 stock or " enhanced". But it does have more power. Working on 65,000 miles and the more I put on the worse the mpg seems to get, all hand calculated by the way.
well, i think any diesel motor that you cant tell is a diesel motor from a distance, even when under a load, is "MUCH" quieter. and compared to a detroit it is MUCH quiter, but thats apples to oranges... lol.
The Urea Scr emission controls like the Duramax and the 6.7 will, all other things being equal, deliver better fuel economy than the Dodge 2500 / Cummins NOx adsorber system.
The NOx adsorber has to run in an alternating lean / rich mode to function, to the effect of a 7-10% fuel penalty compared to the urea system.
Don't forget about the 1-2% Urea usage (and cost) when bragging about fuel economy with the 6.7 and Duramax, though. Any discussion of fuel economy now has to consider Urea dosing rate and cost/gallon.
Also, remember that a portion of the fuel economy improvement with the 6.7 is the result of the diet Ford put the portly Super Duty trucks on. Ford uses something like 1%/300 lbs vehicle weight in their models.
The problem with the 6.4 mileage is the dpf systems. over on diesel bombers, a diesel forum I love to visit, there are quite a few people that break 20+ with their 6.4s. They also have big hp tunes from either an SCT or black maxx or spartan and dpf and egr deletes. I dont know about yall but I would love to have a 500 hp 20+mpg beast. I hope the 6.7 lives up to all this hype. I hate how much people bash on things when they dont even know. Ok 6.0s had a lot of problems in the beginning, but for every one guy whos truck is in the shop for longer than its on the road, there are tons that have no problems at all. The 6.4...horrible mileage. That can be fixed as I stated above. Nothing is wrong with the engine though. Yea the 6.4 trucks have had a few problems but it is usually not the engine that has the problem. sorry. rant over.
ok. i might get shot for sayin this, but there is a guy who stuffed a twin turbo duramax in a chevelle and makes over 900 HP and over 1200 ft/lbs and gets 32 MPG...
