6.7 mileage...

Just ran across this article by a Canadian journalist who averaged 10l/100km which works out to 23.5 MPG !!!

Now that's with weight in the back and 4 people in the truck. Don't know if it was a 4x4 or 2x4 but even if the new truck could get 20 MPG I'd go out and buy 2 for my company tomorrow...
Plus the probability that it is a new truck and we know that it takes several thousand miles for diesels to break in and get their best mileage...

Could this be what we'll find in real world conditions???

That is exactly what I said if this truck can get 20 mpgs I would be as happy as a pig rolling in s*%t. This is why I have been waiting for this new powerstroke to come out and as soon as people start getting them and start bragging about how nice they are I am going to order mine.

I read somewhere that the new Super Duty with 6.7l and 3.31 axle ratio got 29.2 mpg! Other people with 3.55 axle ratio and the 6.7 got 24.5 while driving like a maniac. If this is true the new diesel will have a huge improvement over last year.

I don't think we're going to see real world mileage anywhere close to any of those numbers. If the truck will do an honest consistent 18MPG highway I am sure Ford will be thrilled.

That said, I hope I'm wrong.

I agree with you, the reality is it's not gonna get that kinda mpg.I still can't wait to get mine. Is it just me or is there alot of hype behind this truck?? Why?? It might be just me, but honestly I've never researched a new truck so much before.I'm still worried about the new power plant. I hope it lives up to it.

Well this is what the media tested them at. How can that not be real world? You can get 17-18 on the highway with the current one, which is crappy fuel economy.

Depends on the media organization testing them. All the diesel fan-boi rags have a bad habit of grossly overstating the capabilities of any diesel truck they test, going so far as to modify their driving habits to an extreme to reach what they want the results to be.

I'll wait for road test results from Motortrend, Car and Driver, etc. to call it real world results.

By the way I have not heard many owners report that they consistently are getting 17-18 on the highway with the 6.4L. At least not with stock trucks driven by normal human beings.

Again I hope I'm wrong, but I'll bet 18mpg would be a real world number that would be considered the target improvement Ford is shooting for.

The thing that I find interesting about this article is that it's the second article that I've read about these new 6.7L diesels and both state 20+ mpg (~22mpg to be exact) while driving on the highway. In the other article, the writer said that those who were really trying for optimal fuel economy were achieving ~27mpg. I know this area and have driven it many times in the past in my 05 6L PSD and I've never achieved over 18 mpg driving from Prescott to Phoenix, so I'm going to say that I'm pretty impressed.

I have always loved diesels, but for some reason, 20mpg seems to be the Gold Standard in terms of fuel economy for a light duty diesel. Ford has fallen way short of this in previous years and I'm really hoping that this new diesel will be able to achieve it consistently, and if they do, I'll be in line to buy one.

The only thing that concerns me to the point that I'll wait to see what people on this forum are getting in terms of fuel economy is that all these people writing these articles appear to be driving the same truck. I'm concerned that Ford is giving all these writers a truck programmed to achieve optimal fuel economy, but the factory programming that the rest of us may get will be different. The reason I say this is my cousin is really good friends with the owner of a Dodge dealership and when he bought his 06 Megacab, they had him bring it back in to be flashed for optimal fuel economy (a program that they said they only use on certain customers). His truck consistently gets 22-24 mpg on the highway at 85 mph and towing a small snowmobile trailer, he still gets 20-21 mpg. I didn't believe him at first until I went with him to fill up and sure enough, he was right.

Anyways, I don't want to sound like a conspiracy theorist, but I just hope that these new Power Strokes really get the economy that these writers are stating. If that's the case, then I won't mind buying urea from time to time.

There's plenty out there that have driven it. Trucktrend is one of them. They are all claiming 22-24mpg.

yes we do and we have posted that many times. Under ideal conditions, 62/65 mph solo, CC fairly level interstate. F-350,CC,LB, 4X4, 4:10 diff. Truck is reaching for 30K miles. I am sure the test conditions are also under ideal conditions. With a 6 speed xmittion and proper diff the mpg may be better but I would not get all excited.

I got 17 when i tried a 2008 F350 6.4 on the freeway. It wouldn't get any more than that, but that's what I was able to get, so I'm not sure why anyone disputes that claim.

My old 2008 Reg Cab 4x4 6.4 SRW no load couldn't get 15 on the interstate. I just traded it for a 2010 and it gets the same. I don't see how the truck weighing almost the same can get in the 20's? I've been wrong before and hope the claims are correct. The six speed transmission will help.

I also drive a 2010 Prius to work as a commuter. All the claims for 60 MPG's is way off on the Prius. The best I've ever done is 52. My average is 48 MPG.

Truck Trend claimed 18MPG driving normally at 75mph. Still not bad, I am sure throttling her back to 65mph would have netted another mile per gallon or two.

These early media reviews are meaningless.

The trucks they drove were hand-selected by Ford. No one but Ford knows what program is in the ECU.
