Love my 65 to death, but the gas mileage for a 90 mile round trip to school everyday was killing me... plus leaking at least a quart a day.
So I started looking for a commuter vehicle, was gonna try and buy one of my buddies cars, a 95 civic (sad... I know...) but that fell through when his sister in law needed a car too.
That was 3 days ago that he told me he gave it to her. Then my mom suggested I ask a family friend if He was interested in selling his truck, so we talked to him.
It's a 92 Ranger, 2.3L I4 with a 5-speed, gets like 22 miles to the gallon. It wouldn't start for him, so we opened up the hood and the battery was completely corroded, so he said for $550 I could take it, and he let me pay 300 now and 250 next month. popped the battery from my 65 in and started right up. needs two tires but they all are holding air, so I can at least drive it a bit.
oh I won't. I'm never gonna get rid of it! I spent a summer working my butt of to save up the money for that, it technically was my first car even though I never drove it till 2 years later. And it's what I learned to work on cars on, it has a HUGE sentimental value to me, but right now I don't have the money to properly fix it, and so now this ranger is perfect for my situation, and in a year or two I'll hopefully have the money to fix the 65 (Although I'll still go start it up and drive it every once in a while, there is absolutely nothing like driving an old vehicle, I absolutely love it!)
here's what's funny, this is my 4th vehicle, wow that just clicked that in 4 years I've gone through four vehicles...
But up until now every vehicle I've had was a 6 cylinder and a speedo at least 100mph, first the BMW 535i had a 3.5 liter l6 160 mph, then the sonoma 4.3 V6 100 mph, and trigger with the 300 I6 100 mph.
now a 4 cylinder with an 85 mph speedo, oh dear I just went smaller all around haha
What do you mean by that? I don't own a dakota! I only pay for insurance and gas for the thing! it's my son's truck... my name is not even on the title.
My name is on the Toyota title though, right under the wife's
Nice little Ranger.
But, If I was in your situation, I'd go broke paying for gas for the '65 cause it's so cool driving a real vehicle, it's worth not having any money if you can drive it every day, Have fun with it.
The best part is having a reliable commuter and your Slick will be your cruiser! This gives you a chance to resto stuff that might be needed and hard to swing trying to repair on the weekend and be back up & running by 0600 monday. Been there done that & got the busted knuckles to prove it as well!!!!
Great price on the Ranger you got a good friend there that sell it to you!
Like you said at least its a Ford!!! And at least you get to keep the 65! Wouldnt want to have to give that up. Good luck with everything and hope you get back to being able to use the 65 as an everyday!
