If you do a full flush and swap to ELC, I don't think you really need a filter. Just my humble opinion. But if you really want one, DieselSite.com has a complete kit: http://www.dieselsite.com/index.asp?...WPROD&ProdID=8
LOL... If I were to guess, it would be the composition of the filter media. Oil & water are significantly different chemically, so I would bet there's a big difference. Not sure on the micron rating either, but that's another potential difference.
I can say that I've done a flush and fill, and after I installed the filter, I still got a good tablespoon or so off fine black casting sand out of the block. I doubt that would really do much, if any long term damage, but (1) having a filter can't hurt, (2) it looks kinda cool LOL.
Yea im all about Preventive Maintenance so i like the sounds of installing one. I want to do a DIY setup cause i feel more pride in making something then buying a kit and putting it on.

I've had one for ~6 years or so, unfortunately, I lost the "visual" cool factor, when I mounted it under the truck.
If u switch to elc coolant just make sure the filter is not sca charged- Just installed the DS coolant filter kit when I did my elc switchover last week. The filter base and mount has beautiful fit & finish but the filter itself is a very tight fit with the upper radiator hose. That said I do feel better with it in there. Will know in a month or so how much crap it caught.
